Dr. Swagata Sarkar

Dr. Swagata Sarkar is a highly accomplished ophthalmologist and vitreo-retinal surgeon with over 20 years of experience in the field.

Dr. Sarkar obtained his MBBS degree, where he was a gold medalist, and later completed his MS in Ophthalmology. He also holds a fellowship from the Medical Research Foundation (F.M.R.F.) and is a fellow of Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai. Throughout his career, he has trained and worked in many prestigious eye care institutes and multi-speciality hospitals across India, including Sankara Nethralaya, LVPEI, Retina Foundation, Bombay Hospital, Hinduja Healthcare, and Seven Hills Hospital.

Dr. Sarkar specializes in a wide range of ophthalmic medical and surgical interventions. His expertise includes the management of retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy, ocular inflammatory and autoimmune disorders (uveitis), trauma with retained intraocular foreign bodies (IOFB), macular holes, and macular edema. He is skilled in various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as ocular ultrasonography, ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM), fundus fluorescein angiography, and intraocular injection of anti-VEGF for diabetic macular edema. Additionally, he has experience in complex surgeries like scleral-fixated intraocular lenses for dropped IOLs using the lasso technique, complex diabetic retinopathy with combined rhegmatogenous detachment (RD), and macular hole surgery
